People of earth,
Another jam-packed newsletter full of all the muck that's fit to rake.
A plug right from the get-go; we need you Friday August 28 to help marshal for the Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards dinner.
It promises to be an enjoyable night amongst friends, held at the scenic Dockside Pavillion on Darling Harbour, as well as a fantastic opportunity for us to give back to the brave men and women of the NSW Emeregency Services.
Also if you're like me and have an all consuming desire to prove how smart you are, see: previous fun facts, it's not too late to register for the Burwood Trivia Night, this Friday 21 August. Details below.
Happy reading folks!
Burwood Rotaract Trivia Night - 21/08/2015
A Rotaract institution, the best darn trivia night I've ever seen, a once a year chance to heckle Liam; these are just some of the things I'm reliably informed have been said about Burwood Rotaract's Annual Trivia Night.
This year it will be held on 21 August at the Burwood RSL Club, 96 Shaftesbury Road, Burwood, in support of Mates 4 Mates!
Mates 4 Mates is a registered not-for-profit Australian charity, initiated by the RSL (Queensland Branch), which supports current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members who have suffered physical or psychological wounds, injuries or illnesses as a result of service, in Australia or overseas.
There will also be a prize for the best decorated table and/or best dressed person (the theme is easy – trivial pursuit!)
Mini Golf Against Malaria - 23/08/2015
As a way to raise money for our National Project - Rotaract Against Malaria (RAM), the Social Committee is putting on a Mini Golf Against Malaria event.
Please join us for 2 courses at the magical Putt Putt @ Ermington off Victoria Road.
Tickets will be $30 for Adults/$25 for Students. All money raised will go towards Rotaract Against Malaria (RAM).
The newest club in our District, the Rotary Club of St George Next Gen have invited us to celebrate their Charter night at 6:00pm on August 27, 2015 at Gardens on Forest, Peakhurst.
The night will include an address from Guest speaker, Andrew Morello, the first Australian Apprentice and Head of Business Development at Yellow Brick Road Wealth Management, as well as additional entertainment on the night.
It promises to be a great opportunity to network with like minded people who are joining together to make a difference in our community and in the world.
Emergency Services Awards Dinner - 28/08/2015
The Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards acknowledge and celebrate outstanding community service performed by members of the six official NSW State Emergency Service Organisations.
Sydney City Rotaract will play a major role in these awards going forward, so let's get some tables together to celebrate an incredible night!
The Awards are being held at Dockside Paviliion on Friday 28 August, and tickets will be subsidised for SCR members!
If you have the time, jump on and like their Facebook Page and check out the finalist profiles!
Our good friends the Rotary Club of Darling Harbour have a wonderful volunteering opportunity coming up at the end of this month.
They will be helping refurbish Rosalie House, a refuge for mature women who are victims of domestic violence.
Taking place over a couple of weekends, the project involves totally renewing the painted surfaces of the inside of the home, adding soft furnishings, lamps and art works to enhance the atmosphere and homeliness, and retooling their garden.
Just a chance to get to know each other, make new friendships and meet in a casual laid-back environment.
You can drop in and have a chat or stay for a meal.
Save the Date - Membership Conference/Youth Summit - 05/09/2015
The Membership Conference /Youth Summit will be held again this year in Canberra.
The conference will start on Saturday morning at 8.30am, and finish at 12.30pm Sunday.
The first session will be a plenary session until 10.00am then a morning tea break. The rest of Saturday, and Sunday morning until morning tea will be breakout sessions.
You know what's great?
Minigolf. Let's all go for a game this Sunday.
Fun Fact: During production of 'The Lion King', 5 animators worked for over 2 years to create the 2.5 minute "wildebeest stampede" sequence. They just don't make movies like that anymore kids. They just dont.
Well, that's it from me. Don't forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday, the 26th of August, at the Tresscox Lawyers Offices, starting 6.30PM.
