The Street Soccer Program is a community initiative of The Big Issue in Australia using football as a catalyst for transforming lives and providing participants with a
real sense of purpose and belonging.
The Street Soccer Program involves males and females, from 16 years and varying ability and fitness levels, getting together once a week, training and playing
matches. The program operating in 28 locations around Australia to help people in all communities positively change their lives including North Melbourne, Dandenong,
Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Port Adelaide, Adelaide, Perth, Morwell, Sydney, Wollongong, Brisbane, Townsville, Broadmeadows, Shepparton, Canberra, Parramatta, Darwin, Mildura, Port Augusta, Gold Coast , Alice Springs, Port
Hedland, Hobart, Bunbury, Newcastle, Broome, Launceston
Weekly training offers people, who have experienced homelessness, substance abuse or disadvantage, the opportunity to get fit, make new friends and seek
support and advice.
At the end of the program, a tournament is held in Darling Harbour! The tournament offers the players the chance to display the skills they have learnt in the Street Soccer program State v State in a competition
showdown.
For the first time ever, a Street Soccer pitch will be installed on a barge on the water in front of the screen
and players will get the opportunity to play soccer on a floating pitch.
